How to use

dda_CURATE is a set of Reaper scripts to help you rate, organize, and categorize your sounds quickly and easily. It comes with three collections of scripts: CATEGORIZATION, RATING, and METADATA (as well as some ITEM scripts). These scripts help you save the hours of work it takes to listen through your field recordings, sound libraries, or project sounds and allows you to quickly and easily rate, categorize, and add metadata to each sound in your project.

To use the scripts:

  1. open the actions list in Reaper (Actions->Show actions list…)
  2. type ‘dda’ to filter the scripts and find the dda_CURATE scripts.
  3. select the script you want to use and click ‘run’ OR assign a hotkey to the script and use the hotkey to run the script without opening the actions list.

What's Included

dda_RATING

These sets of scripts allow you to color-code your items and organize them by their color-coded rating. The first script you’ll want to launch is the dda_RATING – Show and change rating colors.lua

This script will prompt you to set five (5) colors as your rating colors. You must choose 5 or the script will not work. These colors will be used for all other dda_RATING scripts to set items colors, organize by color, and select item of specific colors.

dda_CATEGORIZATION

These sets of scripts allow you to categorize your items. You can categorize your sounds by adding text to selected item notes, by moving items to child tracks, or by repositioning items based on item length.

dda_METADATA

These sets of scripts allow you to add metadata to your sounds. Since Reaper does not allow users to directly access and change metadata directly from the main window (except through the media explorer), metadata is added via regions.

Adding Description Metadata

  1. To add description metadata to individual sounds/items, select Script: dda_METADATA – Add description metadata to selected item notes.lua. This script will add text to the selected item notes and will automatically add the tag ‘description=’.
  2. Once all your items have their descriptions, run the script Script: dda_METADATA – Create individual regions for selected items and rename region using item notes.lua to create region around each individual selected item. The regions will be named based on the description you entered with the prefix ‘description=’.
  3. Load the provided reaper project template ‘dda_CURATE project file for metadata export’
  4. Open the render window, select the Metadata checkbox, and click Metadata button
  5. Click Preset button and save preset
  6. Click Apply, then OK
  7. Export sounds using the preset in the Render window. The Source should be set to Region Render Matrix and Bounds to All Project Regions.

Adding Project Metadata

  1. Run the Script: dda_METADATA – Add project metadata regions (all-in-one).lua
  2. Input all the text information and click OK
  3. The script will automatically add regions for each text field.
  4. Load the provided reaper project template ‘dda_CURATE project file for metadata export’
  5. Open the render window, select the Metadata checkbox, and click Metadata button
  6. Click Preset button and save preset
  7. Click Apply, then OK
  8. Export sounds using the preset in the Render window. The Source should be set to Region Render Matrix and Bounds to All Project Regions.

dda_ITEM

These sets of scripts allow you navigate items quickly and also include the information printout script to view details of all the sounds in your project.
